Rant of the Day

I’ve realized we do so much for every person in our lives except for the only one who deserves it most — ourselves. To an extent, we look to others for the go-ahead in life. “What will this person think if I do this? Will he/she disapprove? How can I please this person — along with every other person out there?” I feel like nothing we do is for ourselves anymore. I’ve had these thoughts for quite a while. And maybe it’s because I’m in between jobs at the moment, but now more than ever I’ve felt judged on every damn thing in my life. And I mean everything. I won’t lie, I’m a people-pleaser. Others’ happiness comes before mine does. It has it’s advantages and disadvantages of course. Lately it’s becoming a disadvantage. Say you’ve been thinking about applying for a certain job that doesn’t seem like your type. What’s honestly so wrong with stepping out of your comfort zone and trying something new? Is it really appropriate of people to judge by giving you a negative remark or a dirty look? When did your life become theirs? Lately I’ve been feeling binned together — figuratively, of course. Held back, trying to please others, getting by without causing a chaotic storm by getting “into it” with others. I feel like I’m in a rut and needing to do something about my life. Relocation, new surroundings, I’m not sure. Or maybe if people were better at paying attention to their own lives instead of judging you for yours, I wouldn’t have the need to rant on about this. Who cares if you don’t like a decision someone else is making. It’s laid all out there for you: it’s THEIR decision, not yours. Deal with it and move on. We all have hurdles to jump through in our own lives anyway.

Here’s an article that I read earlier today that sparked me into venting about this:

15 Things You Don’t Owe Anyone At All (Though You Think You Do)

There’s Nothing Wrong With You

There's Nothing Wrong With You

I’ve always felt like I didn’t belong — never fit in while growing up. I still feel like I’m supposed to be a certain person to every person. It’s like everyone excepts something different out of you. But through the years of disappointment and always trying to be like they want you to be, I’ve learned that there really is nothing wrong with you. So lift yourself up and free yourself from the doubts.

Namaste.

React With No Reaction

Image

The way you react determines everything. Life is filled with many obstacles, selfish people, and unfair disadvantages. How do some people stay happy through everything — even when it’s so bad? Their reaction. It’s your own choice to react the way you do. Sometimes it’s better to react with no reaction. It’s just not worth the effort. Just let it go and move on. How are you going to enjoy life when your reaction is negative? Change your thoughts and you’ll change your life. Don’t fret about the small things — it’s a waste of a worry. If you start to react in a positive way, you will start to see a positive change in your life. I believe everything happens for a reason. If something doesn’t go according to plan, something better is out there for us. Be patient. Find the good in every situation — because it’s always there, no matter what.

Find the True Yogi In You

Image

We’re all searching for true happiness. Sometimes it’s so difficult to find it. We can’t see past the darkness, but the light will always shine through. Maybe not at the moment you want it to, but when the time is right it will.

I’ve had a four-day weekend (it’s been so bitter cold; -35 degrees with the windchill. Gotta love Chicago weather). Having this much time off is so bittersweet. It’s great to have a nice, long break but it can also get a bit boring and that’s when your mind starts to wander about anything and everything. It’s a terrible thing to be stuck in that state of mind. You never know where your mind is headed. Since my mind is prone to overthinking about every little thing, I decided that I was going to put a stop to the negativity and find the positivity. I’ll admit, it’s been a while since I’ve practiced yoga and also meditation. It’s gotten so far away from me and I’ve just pushed it off. I know it’s benefited me in the past, so I decided to give it another shot. I found a sequence by Kathryn Budig, which I just love. She’s an international yoga instructor and author and she’s simply a prodigy. I highly recommend finding sequences that she’s designed.

I started practicing both my yoga sequence and my meditation both first thing in the morning and in the evening. Practicing twice at these certain times guarantees to put a smile on your face and to rejuvenate you in the morning and to calm you down and relax you in the evening. For the past three days I’ve committed to this schedule and I’ve felt better than I have in a long time. More positive about my current situation — not worrying so much about what can happen, go wrong, or feeling stuck. I feel more elated and relaxed. If this outcome has affected me in only three days, I can only imagine how changed my life will be if I stick to it.

I write this post in hopes that you will try this technique. We’re all searching to be inspired and to elevate our mood. I believe the practice of yoga and meditation will help you achieve greatness in every possible way. Start out small with a short 10 minute yoga sequence and a 10 minute meditation practice and work your way up when you’re feeling ready for the challenge. You’ll feel moved and eager to begin each day.

Good luck, my fellow yogi’s! Namaste.

I Am Where I Need To Be

Image

I’ve always wanted to “start my life”. I’ve felt like I was in some ditch and I couldn’t climb my way out. I wanted to be somewhere in my life that I was nowhere near. There were so many obstacles that held me back at that moment — money being the main reason. I know many, many people feel this same way. Being in your low-mid 20’s and wanting to do what you want to really do is almost impossible for a lot of people. School, not the greatest paying job, and reasons of the like hold you back from what you want to do with your life.

What I’ve lately been realizing is that you can’t wait for your life to start — it started the moment you were born — and you’re going to keep running through this game of life until the moment you die. We can’t just wait for something that we’re really looking forward to. It’s such a waste of a great life. Enjoy the moments in between because that’s what shapes your life — that’s what matters. I’ve started realizing this when there was a spurt of people around me that were passing away. Not even of old age. Life’s incredibly short and I think we take it for granted sometimes. Debatable, but we don’t know what happens after we die. So make the most of it now while you still can. Do the things you’ve always wanted to do. Make more friends. Go out more. Take that class you’ve always been wanting to take — no matter how old you are. It’s never too late while you’re still alive. So just remember that even if you aren’t exactly happy in your current situation, it’s where you need to be and you’ll eventually climb out.

Keep on dreaming, living, and loving.

You Are Enough

“I heard everybody saying that you are never gonna fit in.
It feels like you’re never good enough” – Michelle Chamuel

How many of you can relate to the above lyrics? It happens way too often to me. People bring you down whether they meant to or not. Insecurities ruin us completely but the only person who can prevent them from ruining you is you. Whatever your insecurity is, you can overcome it. You’re a beautiful, talented, smart, and amazing person. We let people get to us and we let it destroy us. “Ugh, your nose is too big for your face”. “You’re terrible at sports”. “You’re dumb”. These are all negative comments that get to us and hurt us. Why do people make these comments? Because they’re jealous and/or assholes. Pardon my language but it’s the truth. There’s something so unique about each and every one of us and no one considers that. Even I don’t, but I’m learning to. All you need to do is stand up, put a smile on your face, and listen to your heart and nobody else.

“When you’re lost and can’t be found
Just lift your head and stand your ground
It’s always dark before the dawn
So raise your voice and sing this song” -Michelle Chamuel

The song I’ve referred to in this post was written and produced by last season’s runner up of The Voice, Michelle Chamuel. Check it out — it’s called Go Down Singing.

Gratitude Is My Prayer

Image

Too many times we live with anger, worry, depression and anxiety and not enough happiness, gratefulness, positivity and calmness. If you think about it, we’re actually very greedy people. That’s how it is with both nature and nurture. We live in a society where we WANT WANT WANT instead of NEED NEED NEED. It’s a bad habit we’ve grown up with but it’s time to learn to be more selfless and giving instead of selfish and wanting. I believe if we do tackle the habit of greed and selfishness, there will be more peace in the world.

We all just go about our day in routine like it’s nothing special. We don’t stop and think about what we’re doing or pay attention to the sensations we’re supposed to feel. Especially if we’re working — wake up, go to work, come home, eat dinner, relax for some time, sleep, and repeat. It’s draining the life out of us slowly. I’ll admit there are some people out there who do like routine, and even I do to a certain point, but we need to feel alive.

There are specific things we can do to help. Wake up, put that beautiful smile on your face and say, “Today’s going to be a wonderful day!”, meditate and/or do some yoga to rejuvenate yourself, and then go to work. Even before that — while you’re in the shower, feel the warm or hot water hitting your body and think about how it makes you feel. Enjoy those little moments — the texture and how hard the water is massaging your skin. While you’re driving to work, pay attention to how you feel and the world around you. We’re all in a hypnosis when we’re driving to each of our destinations, especially when it becomes a repetitive drive. Take it all in and enjoy it for once. When you’re eating your food, pay attention to the taste of your food. Not only will you enjoy each bite more, you’ll be eating more slowly which can help your metabolism regarding weight loss. Food really does taste wonderful, anyone can agree, so do your mind and body a favor and just appreciate what you’re eating.

These are just a few different ways to help you enjoy your day and to help you get through your day even though you feel like you’re stuck or drained. Really just cherish everything because, I know it’s cliche but, there are so many other people out there who have so much less than you do and would give anything to be in your shoes.

Live in the moment. Laugh every day. Love with all your heart. 🙂
